New iPhone in 2018: iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR

The rumors of the new iPhone were ended on 12th September 2018 in a live event which took place at the Steve Jobs Theatre on the Apple Park Campus in Cupertino, California, where the company delivered the long-awaited information on its new iPhones, the flagship iPhone XS Max, its little buddy the iPhone XS and a popular alternative to the iPhone x, the iPhone XR

iPhone XS and XS max design

The iPhone XS follows exactly the same design as the existing iPhone X. The iPhone XS Max is really a larger version that same design. This implies that they both offer a mix of stainless steel and glass, with all features, ports, and buttons in exactly the same positions as the 2017 iPhone X. The iPhone XS size is 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7mm and weighs 177g. The iPhone XS Max measures 157.5 x 77.4 x 7.7mm and weighs 208g. The iPhone XS and XS Max are IP68 water and dust resistant and they can be purchased in Gold, Silver, and Space Grey finish options.

iPhone XR design

The cheaper iPhone XR is different with both from the iPhone X it replaces and from the iPhone 8. The iPhone XR comes with an aluminum core as opposed to stainless steel, allowing Apple to cut costs, but just like the XS and XS Max, the glass will be material of preference for the front and rear. It measures 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3mm and weighs 194g. The iPhone XR is IP67 water and dust resistant and it is likely to be available in black, white, blue, red, yellow and coral options. It offers the wider color choice as compared to the XS and XS Max.

• The Apple iPhone XS is the tiniest of the three new iPhones having the 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED display.
• The iPhone XS Max is the larger display of 6.5-inch Super Retina OLED screen.
• When it comes to resolution, the iPhone XS or the 5.8-inch model offers 458 ppi that are exactly like as the 2017 iPhone X and it has a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels.
• The 6.5-inch model also has the pixel density of 458 ppi and it has the resolution of 2688 x 1242 pixels.

The Apple iPhone XR comes with 6.1-inch LCD display that Apple is calling a Liquid Retina display. The LCD panel allows Apple to keep the price down, just like the aluminum core. The XR has a resolution of 1792 x 828 pixels, which results in a pixel density of 326ppi, which will be exactly like the iPhone 8. Unlike the iPhone XS and XS Max, the iPhone XR doesn't offer HDR support.

The Apple iPhone XS and XS Max both have dual-lens setup on the rear. It has a 12-megapixel f/1.8 wide-angle camera and a 12-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto camera with dual optical image stabilization. The wide-angle lens is definitely the brand new sensor as compared to the iPhone X. It offers 1.4µm pixels and larger Focus Pixels. It has a better True Tone flash with an advanced flicker detect system.

The iPhone XS and XS Max both feature Portrait Lighting and Portrait mode, Live Photos with stabilization, and wide color capture for photos. They add something called Smart HDR and Portrait Mode with Depth Control which will help you later to adjust the depth of field after having a shot has been taken.

iPhone XR camera

The iPhone XR featuring exactly the same True Depth front camera, but it has only one lens at the back of the XR. It has the same all-new 12-megapixel f/1.8 wide-angle sensor as in the XS and XS Max but it will not have the 12-megapixel telephoto lens. The iPhone XR will still offer lots of the same features like XS and XS Max. It also has the Portrait Mode with Depth Control, advanced bokeh, and Smart HDR.

The three new iPhones all have the exact same chip. It has the brand new A12 Bionic chip. It has a 7nm processor that is made up of a neural engine, a 4-core GPU and 6-core CPU and it provides significant improvements over the last A11 chip. Apple says the CPU is 15 percent faster as compared to the A11 and 40 percent more effective. The GPU is reported to be 50 percent faster as compared to the A11. The neural engine is claimed to manage the five trillion tasks per second in comparison to 600 billion on the A11's neural engine. Battery life is improved too. The iPhone XS and XS Max come with the 64GB, 256GB and 512GB storage option. The iPhone XR comes with the 64GB, 128GB and 256GB options. It has now dual-Sim feature. All of the iPhone 2018 models will support gigabit LTE data transmission speeds and 4x4 MIMO standards.

The iPhone XS and XS Max are going to be available for pre-order from 14 September, with availability starting on 21 September. In India, it will be available from 28 September. The iPhone XR is going to be available for pre-order from 19 October, with availability from 26 October.
