The steps in this guide are only applicable, if you have enabled snap windows on your PC. Therefore, we will begin by explaining how to enable snap windows.

How to Enable Snap windows on Windows 11

You cannot split-screen on Windows 11 if you do not enable snap windows. Follow the steps below to do this in no time.

Step 1: Settings

Open the settings app on your PC. You can do this in three ways. 

First, click the start menu (windows button) on the taskbar. When the app menu loads up, click on the settings app.

You can also right-click on the start menu instead. After right-clicking, a list of options will display select settings to continue.

Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut keys anywhere on your computer. Press the combination of the windows button + I on the keyboard.

Either of the three methods will take you to the PC settings. Go to step 2 to continue. 

Step 2: Click System

From the settings page on your PC, click on the system option. It should be highlighted already since it is the first option on the list.

Step 3: Select Multitasking

If the system option is highlighted after you click it, the system settings will display to the right of the page. Scroll through the options and select multitasking.

Step 4: Click the Snap windows toggle

The Multitasking page will display. You can enable snap windows by clicking on the toggle next to the Snap windows if it is not on.

Also, click the arrow next to the toggle to display a list of options, and ensure you check all the boxes next to each option in this list. It will add to the efficiency of the snap window on your PC.

With that, the snap window is active, and you can go ahead to split your computer screen.

Steps to Split Screen in Windows 11

The following steps will help you split your PC screen on Windows 11. You may split-screen into two, three, or four.

Note that you must open all the windows or applications you will have on the split-screen and minimize them before you start. We begin with splitting your PC screen into two.

How to Split Screen to Two in Windows 11

Step 1: Open the first Window or App

The first step is to open the first window or application you want to use. It can be an installed app or a system folder. Let us illustrate with Microsoft Edge. Here is a view of your PC screen when you launch Edge.

Step 2: Press Windows Key + Arrow Key (Left or Right)

The next step is to press the Windows key + an arrow key on your keyboard. You may press either of the left and right arrow keys.

Press the Windows key + right arrow key to split your current window to the right.

If you want to split the window to the left side of your screen, then press the Windows key + left arrow key.

Step 3: Release the Key Combinations

The current window on your PC screen will split to your desired position on the screen. When it does, release the keys, and the system will display other available windows on the second screen as you see in the images in step 2.

Step 4: Click on the Second Window

Select the second window you want to work on from the available windows on the second screen. Let's choose photos here for illustration. The screen split into two is complete.

How to Split Screen to Three in Windows 11

Splitting your PC screen into three follows the steps in splitting it into two. Therefore, you should split the screen into two first, as shown above. Then you can continue to add a third window with the steps below.

Step 1: Select a Window from the two active Windows

Select one of the split windows. You can do this by clicking on one of the windows.

Step 2: Press Windows Key + Arrow Up Key

After selecting one of the windows, press the combination of the windows button + Arrow Up Key to split the window into two. The first window will move to the top part of the screen, while the other part of the screen will display available windows as you will see below.

Step 3: Select a New Window

Select a new window from the available windows that displays. That way, your screen will split into three. Note that one window will be larger than the other two.

How to Split Screen to Four in Windows 11

Again, split your screen into three before adding the fourth window. Here are the steps to split-screen into four.

Step 1: Select a Window to Split it

You should have three active windows on your screen. Select the larger window.

Step 2: Press Windows Key + Arrow Up Key

Press the combination of the windows button + Arrow Up Key to split the selected window into two. The first window will move to the top part of the screen, while the other part of the screen will display available windows.

Step 3: Select a New Window

Select a new window from the available windows that display, and your screen will split into four.

Steps to Remove Split Screens

You can remove split screens on your PC with the following steps. 

Step 1: Select a Window to Remove it

Select the split windows you wish to remove.

Step 2: Press Windows Key + Shift, then the Arrow Down key

Press and hold the combination of the windows button + Shift. Then, press the arrow down key twice. It will remove the window you select.

If you want to remove the other split screens, hold the windows button + Shift still, then press the arrow down button again till you close all the windows.
