In one of the previous articles, I have mentioned What is FTP Server and How to use it, but now in this article I have explained how we can transfer files from one PC to another or from one server to another using Filezilla FTP.

Step 1: To use Filezilla to transfer files between one server to another, you need to download and install FileZilla first.

Step 2: Once you have installed Filezilla on your PC, you will need to have FTP credentials to connect to the server/PC.

For that, To establish a connection using FileZilla FTP, you will need to collect the following information:

  • FTP Host/Address: (Your Site IP address or server hostname)
  • FTP Username: (Your cPanel / complete FTP username)
  • FTP Password: (Your cPanel / FTP password)
  • Port: 21 or you can leave it blank

So, Open your FileZilla FTP program and enter your FTP credentials into their appropriate fields.

Once you have entered all the details correctly in the above-shown input fields.

Click the "Quickconnect" button and In the window below, the results of the connection will be shown.

Once you are connected, you will see your local files on the left side and the FTP server files (or empty folder, if nothing has been uploaded yet) on the right.

The left column is the folder tree and file listings for the local machine (the pc currently running Filezilla), and the right column is the folder tree and file listings for the remote server (the computer/server being remotely connected to).

Step 3: Transfering files:

Now, as you see we have 2 panes, which are showing the directory, files, and folders of the local PC and connected server, so now files and folders can be transferred in any number of ways:

  • Clicking and dragging an item from the left local column to the right remote column, or vice versa.
  • Clicking and dragging an item from your desktop or open window on your computer to the right remote column, or vice versa.

Any of these methods will copy files from your local machine to the remote server or from the remote server to your local machine.

FileZilla is a great FTP solution is because it helps you to manage and store your FTP accounts and password info.
